Learn more about softball
The Dragons du Sud-Ouest are a female AA fastpitch softball organization that brings together athletes from across the region who are looking to compete in a highly competitive program.
The program is offered to the U13, U15, U17 and U19 categories and focuses on advanced player development within a structured, demanding, and respectful environment centered on performance, commitment, and teamwork.
The Dragons represent an important step in the competitive pathway for athletes aiming to compete at the highest AA level, while proudly representing the Southwest region of Québec.
Softball Québec is a non-profit organization founded in 1970 and represents more than 26,000 members across Québec in the disciplines of fastpitch (moulinet), slow pitch (6-12), and orthodox softball. In 2024, the federation included a total of 1,871 member teams.
Its head office is located at the Maison du Loisir et du Sport (7665 Lacordaire Blvd., Montréal), where permanent staff ensure that appropriate services are provided to all members.
In addition to its employees, Softball Québec relies on the invaluable support of approximately one hundred volunteers serving on provincial committees (excellence, competitions, umpires, development, etc.), as well as a similar number of volunteers within regional associations who help deliver services throughout the province.
Over the years, Softball Québec has successfully overseen the development of fastpitch, slow pitch, and orthodox softball for youth and adults alike, including men’s, women’s, and mixed leagues and tournaments.
During the 1970s and 1980s, softball was considered one of Québec’s most popular mass-participation sports. Today, it is estimated that there may be up to 60,000 softball players across the province, representing significant growth potential.
Softball Québec is the sole official governing body recognized by Softball Canada, of which it has been a member since its founding in 1970. The Canadian federation is a member of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), which brings together 198 national federations and 13 associate members worldwide.
Softball Québec is also the only softball organization officially recognized by Québec’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education (Leisure and Sport sector).
Softball Québec organizes provincial-level competitions, while Softball Canada oversees national championships in both fastpitch and slow pitch — where Québec teams consistently achieve strong results.
